July 21, 2026 Council Meeting Highlights
News:
At the regular Council meeting on July 21, 2026, Administration was directed to:
- Request a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Real Time Operations Centre and Operational Communications Centre Tour in November 2026.
- Request a meeting during the 2026 Rural Municipalities of Alberta Fall Convention in Edmonton, AB, with the Minister of Municipal Affairs to discuss Heart River Housing grant funding for the Red Willow Lodge, the Peace River Regional Airport, Municipal Viability Reviews, Changes from Bill 28 to aggregate pits; and the Public Disclosure of Employee Compensation.
- Submit an Alberta Community Partnership grant application on behalf of the Alberta Bilingual Municipalities Association, for the proposed regional bilingual municipalities initiative.
- Submit the Casino Opportunities for Charitable Organizations Resolution for presentation at the upcoming Rural Municipalities of Alberta District 4 Meeting.
- Provide a letter to the Minister of Forestry and Parks regarding Council’s concern about uncontrolled weeds on Crown land.
- Provide a letter of support for the NAIT Center for Boreal Research’s grant application regarding greenhouse gas emissions arising from agriculture on organic soils in Canada to the Climate Action and Awareness Fund.
Council proclaimed September 21-27, 2026, Rail Safety Week in Northern Sunrise County.
Council affirmed its intent to enter a Regional Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework Committee with the Town of Peace River, County of Northern Lights and the MD of Peace.
Member of Parliament Arnold Viersen joined the Council meeting to provide a federal update. Council provided MP Viersen with a copy of the Peace Regional Energy Alliance’s Position Paper, Press Release and Executive Summary.
Council also brought forward the following items to the attention of MP Viersen:
- The transition to the Build Canada Homes Program
- The Federal responsibilities related to the North End Boat Launch in Peace River.

- Policy 2.4 Grasshoppers
- Policy 2.6 Virulent Blackleg
- Policy 2.7 Weed Control
- Policy 2.9 Municipal Rights-of-Way and Road Allowances
- Policy 2.11 Pest Control
Donations and Sponsorships
- $3,000 to the ScotDance Canada Championship 2027.
- $500 to the SARDA Ag Research Agricultural Showcase.
