Regulated Weeds
Certain species are regulated under the Alberta Weed Control Act due to their invasive nature, which poses significant threats to agriculture and the environment. Invasive plants spread rapidly, are highly competitive, and can quickly displace native vegetation and crops. Weed Inspectors in Northern Sunrise County work diligently to detect and monitor these species.
The Weed Control Act classifies invasive weeds into two categories based on their distribution and threat level: Prohibited Noxious where species must be eradicated and Noxious where species must be controlled.
The following species are most commonly found in the County. For an extensive listing of regulated species, visit the Weed Control Regulation.
