What We Do
Economic Development in Northern Sunrise County focuses on improving economic diversity while enhancing the quality of life for its residents. The County is committed to supporting local businesses and industries, providing the resources they need to sustain and expand their operations. Additionally, the County actively explores trade and investment opportunities to attract new businesses and industries to the region.

The Economic and Tourism Committee, appointed annually by the Council, advises the Economic Development Officer (EDO) and provides strategic direction. The committee's mandate is to encourage the growth and stability of local businesses, foster new economic prosperity, and promote a favorable business environment.

The EDO plays a vital role in identifying opportunities and addressing challenges faced by local businesses. Our mission is to attract new businesses and industries to Northern Sunrise County, fostering employment opportunities, enhancing community prosperity, and supporting youth retention and attraction in the region.

The committee also focuses on creative and unique approaches to promoting tourism in our area through innovative marketing strategies, participation in trade shows, and close collaboration with Mighty Peace Tourism. Our region boasts a variety of attractions and events that highlight the vibrant culture and natural beauty of the area.

Alberta Food Centre The Alberta Food Centre has been helping the value-added food processing industry bring ideas to market for more than 40 years. Entrepreneurs and food manufacturing companies of all sizes work with us to connect, develop and grow their business while preparing to graduate and process on their own. We offer a range of services, equipment and leasable space to help start-ups and established companies bring safe, high-quality food, beverage and ingredients to new markets. The Alberta Food Centre also assists the food industry in achieving research goals. We collaborate with food processing companies, commodity groups, research and academic institutions to develop innovative new products, processes and technologies.
