Purpose

The purpose of the Agricultural Service Board, as outlined in Section 2 of the Agricultural Service Board Act, is multifaceted:

(a) To serve as an advisory body, assisting both the council and the Minister in matters of mutual concern.

(b) To advise on, organize, and direct programs for weed and pest control, as well as soil and water conservation.

(c) To assist in controlling animal diseases under the Animal Health Act.

(d) To promote, enhance, and protect viable and sustainable agriculture, with the goal of improving the economic viability of agricultural producers.

(e) To promote and develop agricultural policies tailored to the needs of the municipality.

The Agricultural Weed & Pest Notice Appeal Board is an independent appeal panel established under the Weed Control Act and the Agricultural Pest Act to determine appeals received by a person who has been issued inspector’s notices, local authority’s notices and debt recovery notices.

Purpose

The Mackenzie Intermunicipal Subdivision & Development Appeal Board consisting of County of Northern Lights, Clear Hill County, M.D. of Peace No. 135, M.D. of Fairview No. 136, Saddle Hills County, M.D. of Spirit River No. 133, Town of Grimshaw, Town of Falher, Town of Fairview, Town of McLennan, Town of Manning, Town of Peace River, Village of Berwyn, Village of Donnelly, Village of Girouxville, Village of Hines Creek, and the Village of Nampa enter into an agreement to establish a Board and provide the hearings of appeals in accordance with the Act within the boundaries of municipalities that are parties to the agreement.

Purpose

The purpose of the Municipal Planning Commission is to exercise those development powers and duties assigned to it by the Land Use Bylaw, in accordance with the Municipal Government Act. The Commission shall advise and assist Council to achieve orderly, economical, and beneficial development, use of land, and patterns of human settlement. The Commission shall carry out other functions and duties as may be assigned by Council. The Commission may establish rules as necessary for the conduct of its business that are consistent with the Municipal Planning Commission Bylaw, other County bylaws, and the Municipal Government Act.

Purpose

The Northern Alberta communities of Northern Sunrise County (NSC), the Village of Nampa, Woodland Cree First Nation (WCFN), and Lubicon Lake Band #453 (LLB) have formed a collaborative partnership to meet the current and future water needs of their communities. NEW water Ltd. (NwL) operates a regional water system with the objective of delivering safe and reliable drinking water to a number of the farming communities, Hamlets, Village, and First Nations communities in the region.

Purpose

The Northern Alberta Elected Leaders (NAEL) offers a venue for northwestern municipal leaders to gather and share current practices and seek opportunities to collaborate NAEL advocates for change on numerous issues of common interest in the northwest. Members of the group are located within the constituencies of Peace River, Dunvegan-Central Peace-Notley, Grande Prairie-Wapiti, Grande Prairie-Smoky, West Yellowhead, and Lesser Slave Lake. NADC is the secretariat for the Northern Alberta Elected Leaders since the group’s formation in 2004.

Purpose

Established in 1986, SARDA Ag Research is a non-profit organization addressing local agricultural issues, directed by producers from the Municipal Districts of Smoky River, Greenview, Big Lakes County, Northern Sunrise County, and the County of Grande Prairie. SARDA Ag Research focuses on sustainable agriculture, applied research, and information transfer to benefit local producers. They are dedicated to adapting to the evolving needs of the community, promoting diversification in agriculture, and providing a platform for other organizations to conduct research and extension activities.

Purpose

The Town of Peace River Intermunicipal Committee's plan is to provide opportunities for collaboration and communication between the two municipalities, to create a regional framework that has the capacity to address intermunicipal issues as they relate to planning and development to support the long-term interests of both municipalities. By creating a planning framework with policy directions and processes, the IDP provides more certainty for residents and potential investors when it comes to land use and development.

Purpose

The Water North Coalition Committee's purpose is a collaborative effort of working together to find and implement northern solutions to water sourcing and water challenges, with a focus on advocacy, public education, attraction and retention and training. Water and wastewater management challenges often impact northern communities more acutely with its geographic remoteness, aging workforce and infrastructure, and recruitment and retention issues.
