March 24, 2026 Council Meeting Highlights
News:
At the regular Council meeting held on March 24, 2026, Administration was directed to:
- Provide a letter of support for the Mihta Askiy Data Center Project.
- Complete the membership application to the Fair Electricity Distribution Alliance.
Council appointed Fire Chief David LeBlanc and Deputy Fire Chief Julien Bergeron as the 2026 Fire Guardians for Northern Sunrise County.
Bylaws:
- Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw B483/26 Prohibited and Noxious Species. Third reading of the bylaw will be requested at the April 14, 2026, regular Council meeting.
- Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw B484/26 Elevation of Weed to Noxious Designation. This bylaw will be sent to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation for approval before third reading can be requested.
- Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw B485/26 Intermunicipal Weed and Pest Appeal Board. Third reading of the bylaw will be requested at the April 14, 2026, regular Council meeting.

Presentations:
- Nicole Baldwin and Christine Campbell from ALUS provided an update on their projects.
- Jeannette Danks with Peace Regional Hockey Tour provided a donation request for their Grizzlies’ U16 and U18 Scandinavia Tour.
- Wendy Goulet and Elder Priscilla Lalonde with the Peace River Aboriginal Interagency Committee provided a donation request for their 2026 events.
Donations and Sponsorships
- $500 to the Peace Regional Hockey Tour U16 Grizzly Bears
- $1,400 to the Peace River Kings Basketball Club
- $1,000 to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 62, Peace River
- $13,000 to the Peace River Aboriginal Interagency Committee for the following 2026 Events
$10,000 to the Peace River Pow Wow, $2,000 for the Sisters in Spirit, Red Dress Day, $1,000 for the Pow Wow Calendar Fundraiser
