January 27, 2026 Council Meeting Highlights

 

News:

At the regular Council meeting held on January 27, 2026, Administration was directed to:

ðProvide a letter of support for the Peace River School Division’s application to establish additional collegiate programming focused on skilled trades

 

Bylaws:

ðCouncil gave third reading to and passed Bylaw B478/26, Fees and Charges Bylaw, and Bylaw B479/26, Revised FCSS Committee Bylaw. 

ðCouncil gave first and second reading to Bylaw B480/26 Bursary Review Committee.  Third reading of the Bylaw will be requested at the February 10, 2026, regular Council meeting.

 

Policies:

Council approved the amendments to the following policies:

ðPolicy 1.37 Bursary Program.

ðPolicy 3.17 Travel and Subsistence.

ðPolicy 6.13 Winter Maintenance on County Roads.

 


Presentations:

ðKatie McKinnon, Susan Dowse, and Terese Nowakowsky, with Energy Alberta, provided an update on their proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project.

ðS/Sgt. Lacey Blair, with the Peace River RCMP Detachment, provided an update on the RCMP Quarterly Report and Provincial Crime statistics for the second quarter of 2025.

ðAlexandra Brochu of Northern Rural Chicks submitted a donation request for their Women’s Day event on April 18, 2026.

 

Donations and Sponsorships

ð$1,000 to the Northern Rural Chicks for their 2026 Women’s Day Event.

ð$1,000 to the Community Planning Association of Alberta for the 2026 CPAA Conference.

ð$500 to the Revolution Peace River Volleyball Club for their 2026 U14 Team.
