January 13, 2026 Council Meeting Highlights
At the regular Council meeting held on January 13, 2026, Administration was directed to:
- Send a letter of appreciation to the outgoing Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, thanking her for her services and appreciation for the County’s working relationship with her.
- Provide a letter of congratulations to the new Minister of Environment and Protected Areas
Council approved the Funding and Services Agreement between Northern Sunrise County and the Board of Directors for Misery Mountain Ski Hill.
Council approved the provision of $71,000 in the 2026 operations budget for the Parc de St. Isidore new playground project. Council also approved providing up to $135,000 in the 2027 operations budget, with the expectation that Parc de St. Isidore continue to fundraise, apply for eligible grants, and request community sponsorship to support the project.
Council chose to relocate the Pump Track project to Cecil Thompson Park.
Bylaws:
- Council gave third reading to and passed Bylaw B475/25, Council Procedural Bylaw.
- Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw B479/26 Revised FCSS Committee Bylaw. Third reading of the Bylaw will be requested at the January 27, 2026, regular Council meeting.
- Council gave first and second readings to Bylaw B478/26, Fees and Charges Bylaw. Third reading of the Bylaw will be requested at the January 27, 2026, regular Council meeting.
Policies:
- Council approved the amendments to Policy 3.18 Council, Board and Committee Member Remuneration.
Presentations:
- Valerie Levesque, Jose Boisvert, Adele Lavoie, Estelle Lavoie, and Gabriella Steele, with Parc de St Isidore, presented a donation request for their new playground construction project
- Glenda Farnden, STARS Alberta-British Columbia, provided an update on their operations and requested renewal of the annual donation.
Donations and Sponsorships
- $2,000 to the North Peace Performing Arts Association for the 2026 Performing Arts Festival
- $2,500 to the Alberta Pond Hockey Association for the 2026 Alberta Pond Hockey Championships.
- $5,000 annually to STARS for 2026-2029 to support their operations.
