September 4, 2025 - Energy Alberta is inviting community members to attend one of their upcoming community engagements sessions about the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project. 

At each session, representatives from the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) will also host an information table. They’ll be available to talk about:

  • Who IAAC and the CNSC are and what they do

  • The federal impact assessment process

  • Their role in the Peace River Nuclear Power Project assessment

  • How you can get involved

  • Any questions or comments you may have

Here are the dates and locations of the community engagement sessions.

August 18, 2025 - The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada's response permitting the timeline suspension to Energy Alberta allowing for additional time for consultation and community awareness.
 
August 15, 2025 - The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada's response to the Peace Regional Energy Committee's request for clarity on topics emerged from community engagement.
 
July 25, 2025 - Energy Alberta is conducting a series of environment field studies to support planning for the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project. For additional information, check out their Notice of Activity Baseline Environmental Studies.
 
July 24, 2025 - Public comment period for the documents posted on June 9, 2025 is now closed. IAAC will consider the comments received to inform the preparation of the final guidelines and plan that will be issued to the proponent.

June 23, 2025 – Energy Alberta's response to the Summary of Issues is available. A hard copy of this document is available at the Northern Sunrise County Administration Office for viewing.

June 9, 2025 - IAAC provides the following documents for review with an opportunity for members of the public to provide input on by July 23, 2025: Draft Integrated Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines, Draft Permitting Plan, Draft Public Participation Plan, Draft Cooperation Plan, and Draft Indigenous Engagement and Partnership Plan.

May 13, 2025 - Northern Sunrise County provided comments on the Initial Project Description submitted by Energy Alberta. 
 
April 16, 2025 — IAAC is making funding available to help Indigenous Nations and communities and the public participate in the integrated impact assessment process for this project. Applications received by May 16, 2025, will be considered.
 
April 14, 2025 — IAAC and the CNSC are inviting Indigenous Nations and Communities, and the public to review the summary of the Initial Project Description for the Peace River Nuclear Power Project and provide feedback by May 14, 2025. Comments received will be used to prepare the summary of issues.

 

April 11, 2025 - Energy Alberta submits the Initial Project Description to IAAC. A hard copy of this document is available at the Northern Sunrise County Administration Office for viewing
