Northern Sunrise County Council Approves 2026 Budget and Tax Rate Bylaw
Northern
Sunrise County Council has approved the final 2026 capital and operations
budgets. The budget focuses on
infrastructure maintenance, continued services, and intermunicipal
partnerships.
Council also approved
the 2026 tax rate bylaw. The County is
proud to maintain the same tax rates as last year for all property class types.
“The
budget reflects what we hear from residents – maintain roads and bridges,
support community facilities, and work collaboratively with our municipal
partners,” said Reeve Claude Rodrigue. “Council
is proud to keep tax rates unchanged for 2026 while still funding important
projects across the County.”
The
County continues to grapple with the
impacts of provincial downloading and reduced provincial funding. Council remains
committed to advocating strongly on behalf of the County and the region,
raising these and other pressing concerns with the provincial government.
Council and
Administration have developed a balanced budget that invests in critical
projects and essential programs and are thankful that our strategic
decision-making allows us to continue providing consistent services to County
taxpayers. Once again, the budget maintains service levels and continues to
place the County in a stable financial position.
A few of the services,
programs and projects Council approved for 2026 include:
- $7.9 Million for Local Roads, Culverts, and Bridges
- $1.5 Million allocated for the Annual Drainage program
- $2.3 Million for Intermunicipal Collaboration agreements with the Town of Peace River and Village of Nampa
- $400,000 for Fleet and Equipment Replacement, which includes a Grader
- $369,000 to support Community Halls
- $70,000 for Sunrise Gateway Business Park Signage program
