June 9, 2026 Council Meeting Highlights

 

News

At the regular Council meeting held on June 9, 2026, Administration was directed to:

• Provide a letter of advocacy to the Minister of Education for funding and support for Peace Regional Outreach School.
• Provide a letter of support to the Minister of Environment and Protected Areas for continued funding for ALUS programs.

 

Council approved the temporary road closure of a portion of Sunrise Road from the entrance to Fairgrounds Road to Willy’s Trucking from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on June 24, 2026, for the County’s Early Canada Day event.

Presentations:

• Alex Bonokoski of Atco Energy Systems delivered a presentation titled "Partnering for Prosperity."
• Lorena Coombes, Carol Van Slyke, Debbie Bzowy, and Sharon Cameron from Peace Regional Outreach Campus provided an update on their 2025/2026 school year. 

 

Policies

Council approved amendments to Policy 1.38 Generative Artificial Intelligence, as presented.

 

Donations and Sponsorships

Council donates:

• $25,000 to the Peace Regional Outreach School for the 2025/2026 school year.
• $2,000 to the Peace Playland Association for their 2026 Operating Costs.
