March 25, 2025 Council Meeting
News:
At the regular Council meeting held on March 25, 2025, Administration was directed to:
- Send a letter of support a letter of support to the County of Northern Lights for their Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program grant application for the Manning Municipal Airport.
- Send a letter to the Minister of Energy and Minerals regarding the County's concern of unpaid oil and gas taxes.
- Send a letter to the Minister of Health advocating for physical therapy services for individuals with limiting illnesses in the Peace Region.
- Request the Registrar to remove the designation of municipal reserve for the sale of the property from Plan 0720558 Block 2 Lot 19MR.
- Send letters of congratulations to newly appointed provincial parliamentary secretaries, MLA's Ron Wiebe, Justin Wright, and Nolan Dyck.
Council appoint Fire Chief David L. LeBlanc and Deputy Fire Chief Julien Bergeron as Fire Guardians for Northern Sunrise County, who shall exercise the powers and duties of Fire Guardian as set out in the Forest and Prairie Protection Act to the best of their ability, for a period of one year, from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
Bylaws:
- Council gave first reading to Bylaw B469/25 for the purpose of redistricting 12.9 acres within Part of SE24-81-21-W5M from Agricultural District (A) to Country Residential District (CR) as presented.
- Council gave second and third reading to Bylaw B466/25 for the purpose of redistricting 11.11 acres within SW-22-81-20-W5M from Agricultural District (A) to Country Residential District (CR) as presented.
Presentations:
- Rory Koska with the Alberta Forest Products Association provided a presentation on trade barriers and Alberta's forest industry.
Donations and Sponsorships:
- $550 for the Reduce Injury with Student Knowledge Program, on October 7 and 8, 2025 in St. Isidore AB.
- $3,000 to Le Cafe du Coin to assist with the operations of their 2025 seniors lunch program.
- $2,000 to the Grimshaw and District Chamber of Commerce for the 2025 Harvest Moon Festival on September 13, 2025, in Grimshaw, Alberta.
- $800 for the Alberta Community Crime Prevention Association Annual Conference on May 5 - 7, 2025 in Edmonton, AB.
- $5,000 to the Vision Learning Centre to assist with program operations.
- $5,000 to the Peace River Rotaract for River Days on June 20 - 22, 2025 in Peace River, AB.

- April 8, 2025, Public Hearing for the Land Use Bylaw B458/24 at 10:00 a.m.
