November 12, 2024 Council Highlights

News:

  • At the regular Council meeting held on November 12, 2024 Administration was directed to:
  • Send a letter to the Minister of Forestry and Parks, and the Minister of Service Alberta requesting an update from the Land Titles Office on the status of the registration of documentation to allow the completion of the Lubicon Lake Band #453 Reserve.
  • Send a letter to the MLAs for Peace River and Lesser Slave Lake requesting their perspectives on the Mature Asset Strategy and the potential impacts the proposed changes would have on municipalities and rural landowners.
  • Send a letter to the Peace Regional RCMP Detachment requesting information on the local staff resources that have been provided through the Police Funding Model since implementation.
  • Schedule community consultations for the Draft Land Use Bylaw B458/24 for January 2025.

 

Bylaws:

  • Council gave third reading to and passed Bylaw B453/24 to repeal Bylaw B443/24 Lending Bylaw for the Peace Regional Women's Shelter Society as presented.
  • Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw B454/24 Youth Council Advisory Committee and Bylaw B462/24 FCSS Advisory Committee as presented. Third reading of the bylaws will be requested at the November 26, 2024 regular Council meeting.
  • Council gave first reading to Bylaw B461/24 for the purpose of redistricting 2.96 acres within SE-1-82-22- W5M from Hamlet Public District to Rural Settlement District and Bylaw B460/24 for the purpose of redistricting 7.96 acres within SE-23-83-21-W5M from Agricultural District to Direct Control District, as presented. The Public Hearings are scheduled for December 10, 2024 at 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. respectively.

  • Glenda Farnden, Senior Municipal Relations Liaison with STARS provided an annual update on their operations.

 

Donations and Sponsorships:

  • $500 to the ACFA Regional de Riviere-la-Paix for their Peace River Regional Bilingual Christmas Event on December 20-21, 2024 in Peace River, AB.

  • November 26 & December 10, 2024, regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
