October 29, 2024 Organizational Council Meeting
At the October 29, 2024, Organizational meeting, Ward 5 Councillor Corinna Williams was elected as Reeve and Ward 4 Councillor Art Laurin was elected as Deputy Reeve.
Council appointed public members to the Agricultural Service Board, Economic and Tourism Development Committee, Family and Community Support Services Committee, Intermunicipal Weed & Pest Appeal Board, Municipal Planning Commission, Northern Sunrise County Watershed Advisory Committee and the Youth Council Advisory Committee. A complete list of all Boards and Committees will soon be available on the County website.
Vacancies remaining on County Boards & Committees will be advertised.
Council also appointed Councillors to the above committees and boards, as well as several external committees. These appointments will also be included in the list of all Boards and Committees that will be available on the County’s website.
October 29, 2024 Regular Council Meeting
News:
At the regular Council meeting held on October 29, 2024, Administration was directed to:
- that Council direct Administration to include the County's invoiced amount from the government of Alberta for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police costs on the 2025 combined assessment and tax notices.
- Send a letter to County residents Donna Dahm, and Leo and Nancy Ethier regarding the prevention and monitoring of heavy industrial vehicle traffic on Township Road 842.
Council approved the closure of County Facilities from December 24, 2024 to January 1, 2025.
Council approved the Assessment Contracts dated April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2028 with Birch Hills County, MD of Spirit River, Town of Spirit River, Village of Nampa, and the Village of Rycroft as presented
Council forgave a $130,000 loan given to the Peace River Regional Women’s Shelter Society for their emergent repairs needed for the shelter in 2024 was forgiven.
Bylaws:
- Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw B453/24 to repeal Bylaw B443/24 Lending Bylaw for the Peace River Regional Women’s Shelter Society as presented. The bylaw will be brought back to the November 12, 2024 regular Council meeting for consideration of third reading.
Policies:
- Council approved the amendments to Policy 4.5 Safety Certified Footwear as presented.
Presentations:
- County residents Donna Dahm, and Leo and Nancy Ethier provided public commentary on industry traffic volumes along Township Road 842.
