November 26, 2024 Council Highlights
News:
At the regular Council meeting held on November 26, 2024, Administration was directed to:
- Send a letter to the Ministry of Justice requesting proper funding be provided to the Peace Region Restorative Justice Association for the programs that have been downloaded on to them by the province and highlight the need for increased provincial transparency regarding annual funding commitments.
- Send a letter of support to the Peace Valley Snow Riders Association for the expansion of their snowmobile trails from Wesley Creek to Harmon Valley Park.
- Send a letter to Dr. Karen Lundgard thanking her for her dedicated service to the Peace Region and congratulations on her retirement.
- Send a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry expressing concern regarding the centralization of the Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (AFSC) Office and the closing of AFSC offices in rural areas.
- Send a letter of support to the Lac Cardinal Regional Economic Development Board for the Rural Development Network Enabling Housing Choice North Project.
- Send a letter to the Ministers of Children and Family Services, Health, and Mental Health and Addiction regarding the success of the Sagitawa Friendship Society's Mobile Outreach Street Team Program and the need for additional capital funding to acquire additional shuttle service vehicles to fulfill the multiple programs offered by the Society.
Council approved the the appointment of the following individuals as members of the Peace Regional Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (PRSDAB) for a three-year term, effective November 30, 2024 to November 30, 2027:
- Randy Morden, Village of Berwyn
- Avis Gagne, Town of McLennan
- Monica Robinson, Town of Peace River
- Owen Sanford, Town of Fairview
- Theresa Johnson, MD of Peace No. 135
- Alison Bjornson and Camille Zavisha, Village of Hines Creek
- Darlene Knezevich and Sandra Van Rootselaar, MD of Spirit River N0. 133
- Montana Kuhar, MD of Spirit River No. 133 as one of the clerks for the PRSDAB.
Bylaws:
- Council gave third reading to and passed Bylaw B454/24 Youth Council Advisory Committee and Bylaw B462/24 Family and Community Support Services Advisory Committee as presented.
Presentations:
- Marissa Geldhart and LeAnn Berry with Sagitawa Friendship Society provided an overview of the Mobile Street Team Program.
- Kelley Reynolds with Solstice Environmental, and Todd Hann and Blake Hamer with Pathway Environmental Solutions Inc., provided a presentation on the Heart River Water Quality Report.
- François Allard with the Peace Valley Snow Riders Association provided a presentation on an Expression of Interest to expand the snowmobile trail from Wesley Creek to Harmon Valley Trail.
Donations and Sponsorships:
- $300 to the Peace River Municipal Library’s Festival of Trees event for the submission of a decorated tree.an
- $2,000 in 2025 to the Peace Playland Association to assist with the Center's operating costs.
- $5,000 to the Peace Region Restorative Justice Association to support their operations.
Upcoming Council Meetings:
- December 10, 2024 and January 14, 2025 regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
- Public Hearings for Bylaw B461/24 for the purpose of redistricting 2.96 acres within SE-1-82-22- W5M from Hamlet Public District to Rural Settlement District, and Bylaw B460/24 for the purpose of redistricting 7.96 acres within SE-23-83-21-W5M from Agricultural District to Direct Control District are scheduled for December 10, 2024 at 10:00 and 10:30 a.m.
