December 10, 2024 Council Highlights
At the regular Council meeting held on December 10, 2024 Administration was directed to:
- Schedule the Land Use Bylaw Refresh Open House for January 13, 2025 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
- Send a letter to Smoky River Applied Research and Demonstration Association recommending the association to continue to provide a standardized annual grant funding report to each member municipality.
- Send a letter of congratulations to the Lubicon Lake Band #453 for the completion of the Little Buffalo Land Transfer.
- Send a letter to the town of Peace River to donate the County’s Community Services Van to be put towards transportation services in Peace River.
- Invite Source Energy Services to an upcoming Council meeting to discuss operations, expansion, and road usage.
- Request a meeting with the Minister of Health to discuss medical services at the Peace River Airport.
Council approved the request from the Hogbin Family to allow for the construction of an outdoor community skating rink at the Harmon Valley Fire Hall.
Council also approved the 2025 Provisional Operating Budget as amended and the Capital Budget as presented.
Bylaws:
Council gave:
- First reading to Bylaw B463/24 Economic and Tourism Development Committee as presented. Second and third reading will be requested at the January 14, 2024 regular Council meeting.
- Second and third reading to and passed Bylaw B461/24 for the purpose of redistricting 2.96 acres within SE-1-82-W5M from Hamlet Public District to Rural Settlement District, and Bylaw as Bylaw B460/24 for the purpose of redistricting 7.96 acres within SE-23-83-21-W5M from Agricultural District to Direct Control District, as presented.
- Second and third reading to and passed Bylaw B457/24 Ward and Council Composition for Municipal Election Purposes as amended. The County ward boundaries have changed and will take effect for the 2025 Municipal Election.

Policies:
- Council approved Policy 1.5 Community Halls Support and Policy 3.18 Council, Board, and Committee Member Remuneration as amended.
Presentations:
- Dave Walty, Wayne Thorp, and Jim Rosin with the Source Silica Sands Local Communications Committee presented a proposal for a traffic study to be done on roads leading up to the Silica Sands and for a designated Conservation Area to be established next to the County’s Gravel Pit.
Donations and Sponsorships:
- $650 to the North Peace Performing Arts Festival Association to help cover costs of concerts, supplies, and other fees.
- $1,500 to the Alberta Pond Hockey Association for the 2025 Pond Hockey Championships on March 7-9, 2025 in Lac Cardinal, AB.

- January 14 & 28, 2025, regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
