November 28, 2023, Council Meeting
News:
At the regular Council meeting held on November 28, 2023, Administration was directed to:
- Notify all residents who attended the October 10, 2023, Public Hearing, and who had previously received letters regarding the proposed bylaw, of the updated Bylaw B435/23 along with the meeting notes from the November 13, 2023, Governance and Priorities Committee meeting where Bylaw B435/23 was discussed.
Council approved the 2024 Strategic Priorities for the County.
Council passed a motion to reduce the County’s residential mill rate from $4 per $1,000 of assessed value to $3 per $1,000 of assessed value for the 2024 taxation year. This rate will be reflected in the 2024 Tax Rate Bylaw that will be brought to Council in April 2024.
Council appointed public member Cory Hogbin to the Family and Community Support Services Advisory Committee.
Bylaws:
- Council gave third reading to and passed Bylaw B421/23 Nampa/Northern Sunrise County Family and Community Support Services Advisory Committee Bylaw as presented.
- Council gave second reading to Bylaw B435/23 Sunrise Gateway Business Park Area Structure Plan to amend Bylaw B189/11 to identify the current road networks and update the districts, bylaw numbers, and provincial acronyms. Third reading of Bylaw B435/23 will be requested at the January 9, 2024, regular Council meeting.
Policies:
- Council approved amendments to Policy 1.5 Community Halls Support as presented.
Donations and Sponsorships:
- $750 to Community Futures for the Lunch Sponsorship at the Women in the North Conference scheduled for May 2024 in Peace River.
- $500 to the Grimshaw Roller Derby Association to support their efforts to expand their existing league and enhance community programming.

- December 12, 2023 & January 9, 2024, regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
