News:

At the regular Council meeting held on March 26, 2024, Administration was directed to:

  • Send a follow up letter to the Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction regarding the disproportionate Casino funds for rural non-profit volunteer organizations and request a response to be provided before the fall of 2024. 
  • Send a letter to the Peace River Member of Legislative Assembly and Member of Parliament expressing Council’s concern regarding the lack of education for children and parents on sextortion, exploitation of children, and drug use. 
  • Send a letter to the Peace Regional Waste Management Company requesting that the transfer stations in Cadotte Lake and Little Buffalo be cleared of trees and vegetation in preparation for the upcoming wildfire season.
  • Provide a letter of support to the Director of Community Services for the Healthy Aging Alberta Provincial Assisted Transportation Project grant application.

Bylaws:

  • Council gave third reading to and passed Bylaw B444/24 Council Youth Committee Bylaw as presented. 
  • Council gave third reading to and passed Bylaw B445/24 Bursary Review Committee as presented.
  • Council gave first reading to Bylaw B448/24 for the purpose of amending Bylaw B275/15 and scheduled a Public Hearing for April 23, 2024.

Donations and Sponsorships:

  • $1,000 to Lubicon Lake Band #453 for their youth to attend the 2024 Native Hockey Alberta Provincials in Edmonton, AB.

Upcoming Council Meetings:

  • April 9 & 23, 2024, regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
  • Public Hearing April 23, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. for Bylaw B448/24 for the purpose of amending the Land Use Bylaw B275/15.
  • Council meetings and Public Hearings will also be available for virtual attendance.
