News:

At the regular Council meeting held on May 23, 2023, Administration was directed to:

  • Invite the Telus Peace River and Edmonton Area managers to a future Council meeting to discuss the new cellular towers in the County.
  • Send a letter to the Alberta Health Services North Zone Representative requesting clarification on the process of relocating evacuated patients during the recent wildfires in the region.

Council approved the temporary road closure of a portion of Sunrise Road from the intersection at Fairgrounds Road to Willy’s Trucking from 3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on June 14, 2023, for the County’s Canada Day Celebration.

Bylaws:

  • Council gave first reading to Bylaw B433/23 Lending Bylaw for the Smoky Applied Research and Demonstration Association.  Second and Third Reading will be requested at the June 27, 2023, regular Council meeting.
  • Council gave first reading to Bylaw B432/23 for the purpose of redistricting the area within Plan 2221926, with the exception of Plan 8121430; Block 1; Lot 7, from Forestry District (F) to Little Buffalo District (LB).  The Public Hearing is scheduled for June 13, 2023, at 10:30 a.m.

Policy:

  • Council approved Policy 5.14 Emergency Management Compensation as presented.

Presentations:

  • Liana Paiva, Provincial Elections Candidate for the NDP introduced herself to Council.
  • Sidney George and Ashley Whittleton with the Peace Region Dance Society provided a presentation on their donation request.

Donations and Sponsorships:

  • $100 gift basket for the Misery Mountain Ski Area 60th Anniversary Dinner and Dance Silent Auction on May 27, 2023, in Peace River, AB.
  • $100 gift basket for the Peace River Victim Services Golf Tournament door prize on June 16, 2023, in Peace River, AB.
  • $2,500 to the Peace Regional Dance Society to assist with the purchase of their new dance facility.

  • June 13 & 27, 2023, regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
