News:

At the regular Council meeting held on January 9, 2024, Administration was directed to:

  • Send a letter of support for the Utility Safety Partners proposed improved damage prevention legislation to MLA Dan Williams.
  • Submit the resolution on Maintaining Non-Partisan Municipal Elections for the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) District 4 meeting on February 9, 2024.
  • Send a letter to Alberta Transportation & Economic Corridors to continue to advocate for the portion of Highway 744 that was realigned at the top of Judah Hill be paved when the highway overlay is scheduled.
  • Send a letter to Alberta Children and Family Services and MLA Williams requesting financial assistance for the Peace Regional Women’s Shelter Society for the costs of their emergent renovations required to the shelter in Peace River.
  • Request a meeting with the Minister of Children and Family Services during the RMA Spring Convention on March 18-20, 2024, in Edmonton, AB to discuss long-term funding for Women’s Shelters.
  • Provide a $130,000 interest-free loan to the Peace Regional Women’s Shelter Society to assist with the costs of emergent renovations at the Women’s Shelter in Peace River. 

Bylaws:

  • Council gave third reading to and passed Bylaw B434/23 Cancellation of Subdivision Plan 0729136 as presented. 
  • Council gave second and third reading to and passed Bylaw B439/23 for the purpose of redistricting the area within Plan 2221487; Block 1; Lot 2 from Agricultural District (A) to Country Residential District (CR) as presented.
  • Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw B441/24 Fees and Charges Bylaw as amended.  Third reading will be requested at the January 30, 2024, regular Council meeting.

Policies:

  • Council approved amendments to Policy 3.17 Travel and Subsistence as presented.

Presentations:

  • Arnold Viersen, MP for Peace River – Westlock provided a verbal update.

Donations and Sponsorships:

  • $20,000 to the Peace Regional Women’s Shelter Society to assist with the costs of emergent renovations at the Women’s shelter in Peace River.

  • January 30 & February 13, 2024, regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
