News:

At the regular Council meeting held on May 14, 2024, Administration was directed to:

  • Order replacement signage for the north and south entrances for the Hamlet of Marie Reine on Highway 744 and install the signs once received.
  • Draft a bylaw combining the electoral boundaries of Ward 5 (Three Creeks/Wesley Creek) with Ward 6 (Cadotte Lake/Little Buffalo).
  • Send a letter to the Premier and Minister of Municipal Affairs regarding Council’s concerns with Bill 18 – Provincial Priorities Act and Bill 20 – Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act.
  • Resend the letter to the Minister of Justice & Solicitor General dated February 27, 2024 regarding the Municipal Police Cost Share and request a response to the questions from the letter.
  • Send a letter to the RCMP Commanding Officer of the K-Division requesting information about the RCMP staffing shortages in Alberta.
  • Send a letter to the Canadian Sustainability Standard’s Board expressing Council’s opposition to the climate and sustainability disclosure standards.

Council appointed Reeve Williams and the following public members to the Youth Council Committee:

  • Tayler Cottrell
  • Sarah Dawe
  • Paige Hogbin
  • Tarek Laurin

Bylaws:

  • Council gave first reading to Bylaw B456/24 for the purpose of redistricting approximately 1.78 acres within NE-35-80-19-W5M from Agricultural District (A) to Direct Control District (DC) as presented and scheduled a Public Hearing for June 11, 2024.
  • Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw B452/24 Municipal Planning Commission as amended. Third reading will be requested at the May 28, 2024 regular Council meeting.
  • Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw B450/24 Revised Emergency Management Bylaw as amended. Third reading will be requested at the May 28, 2024 regular Council meeting.

Upcoming Council Meetings:

  • May 28 & June 11, 2024, regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
  • Public Hearing June 11, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. for Bylaw B456/24 for the purpose of redistricting approximately 1.78 acres within NE-35-80-19-W5M from Agricultural District (A) to Direct Control District (DC.
  • Council meetings and Public Hearings will also be available for virtual attendance.
