August 14, 2018 Council Meeting


Council directed Administration to defer the request to lease the road allowance between SW-16-80-19-W5M and SE-17-80-19-W5M to the next Governance and Priorities Committee meeting agenda.

Council directed Administration to follow up with Alberta Transportation regarding appropriate signage for the new intersection of Highway 986 and 688.

Council directed Administration to include additional landscaping for the Mamowintowin Hall in Cadotte Lake for 2019 budget discussions.

Council participated in the Alberta Water Council Water Sources survey.

Council directed Administration to send a letter to Municipal Affairs requesting a timeline extension for the rural Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework and Intermunicipal Development Plans between the County and the MD of Smoky River No. 130.

Council directed Administration, based on Ministerial Order No. MSL:047/18, to request an exemption from the Minister of Municipal Affairs from the requirements in Sections 605 and 631 of the Municipal Government Act (MGA) for the municipalities of Northern Sunrise County and Big Lakes County to create an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) between the two parties, as the common boundaries between the two is composed entirely of provincial Crown Land.

Council directed Administration to draft a resolution regarding timely payments from the Government of Alberta to the Watersheds to be presented at the Regional Agricultural Service Board Conference on October 30, 2018 in Fairview, AB.

Council directed Administration to invite Heart River Housing to attend a future Council meeting.

Council directed Administration to send a letter to the Peace Regional Waste Management Company requesting two separate fall clean-up weekend dates for the communities of Cadotte Lake and Little Buffalo.

Council directed Administration to advertise in the local newspaper and radio for back to school bus safety from August 29, 2018-September 12, 2018.

Council directed Administration to advise Goldenkey Oil Inc that the County will waive the penalties for tax roll 315911 in the amount of $375.18.

Council directed Administration to inform Service Alberta that the Recommendation for Order in Council exemption from the Foreign Ownership of Land Regulations should move forward for Cabinet’s consideration for the two quarter sections, SE-20 and SW-21-85-19-W5M.


  • Council received a presentation from Chrenek Dion & Associates regarding an update on the County’s Investment Portfolio.


  • Council agreed to transfer the Northern Lakes College Golf Tournament sponsorship in the amount of $2,000 to the Northern Lakes College Gala that will be held on January 26, 2019. This was done as the golf tournament was cancelled.
