February 25 Council Highlights

News:

At the regular Council meeting held on February 25, 2025, Administration was directed to:

  • Send a letter of congratulations to the Skrilik curling team for their strong efforts at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts on February 14 - 23, 2025 in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
  • Include $58,800 in the 2025 budget for the Harmon Valley Agricultural Society to install a cover for their bleachers in the arena.

 

Council also directed Administration to remove the Municipal Reserve designation from Plan 0720558 Block 2 Lot 19MR and schedule a public hearing for March 25, 2025.

 

Bylaws:

  • Council gave third reading to and passed Bylaw B646/25 Fees and Charges, Bylaw B465/23 Tax Penalties Bylaw, and B467/25 Revised Credit Card Borrowing Bylaw, as presented.
  • Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw B468/25 Revised Youth Council Advisory Committee Bylaw as amended. Third reading of the Bylaw will be requested at the March 11, 2025 regular Council meeting.
  • Council gave first reading to Land Use Bylaw B458/24 as presented and scheduled a public hearing for April 8, 2025.
  • Council gave first reading to Bylaw B466/25 for the purpose of redistricting 11.11 acres within SW-22-81- 20-W5M from Agricultural District (A) to Country Residential District (CR) as presented and scheduled a public hearing for March 25, 2025.

 

Policies:

  • Council approved Policy 1.6 Donations and Sponsorships as presented.

 

Presentations:

  • Paul Hamnett, Cam Wietzel, and Erik Haroldson with Canadian Natural Resources Limited presented a request for advocacy regarding their Nipisi Field mature assets properties in the County.
  • Sgt. Lacey Blair, Detachment Commander for the Peace River RCMP presented the October 1 – December 31, 2024 quarterly report, to Council.

 

Donations and Sponsorships:

  • $3,000 to the Peace Region Football Association for their midway food booth installation project.
  • $10,000 to the Peace River Boating Association and Jet Boat Racing Canada for the 2025 World Jet Boat Racing Championships on June 20-22, 2025 in Peace River, AB.

  • March 11 & 25, 2025 regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
  • March 25, 2025 Public Hearing for Plan 0720558 Block 2 Lot 19MR land at 10:30 a.m.
  • April 8, 2025 Public Hearing for the Land Use Bylaw B458/24 at 10:00 a.m.
