June 10 Council Meeting Highlights

News:

 At the regular Council meeting held on June 10, 2025, Administration was directed to:

  •  Create a program to attract investors and developers to provide 55+ housing in St. Isidore, AB.  
  • Send correspondence to the Prime Minister of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, stressing the environmentally responsible ways our province develops Oil and Gas, and the importance of pipeline development to our local, provincial and federal communities.

 

Council approved the appointment of employee Ashley Garnham as an Inspector and Soil Conservation Officer.

 

Council approved the 2025-2029 Agricultural Service Board Grant Program Agreement with Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation.

 

Council approved the provision of an advance vote for the 2025 Municipal Election.  Advance vote days are October 16 from 1:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  October 17 from 8:30 a.m. – 4::00 p.m. and October 17 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  These dates will be advertised on the County website, South Peace News, and the County’s social media.

 

Presentations:

  • Scott Henuset, Brenda Walton, and Terese Nowakowsky with Energy Alberta provided a presentation regarding the Peace River Nuclear Power project.
  • Lorena Coombes, Louise Woroniuk, Debbie Bzowy with the Peace River Outreach Society provided an update on their operations.

June 24 and July 22, 2025, regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
