May 13 Council Meeting Highlights

May 13, 2025 Council Meeting

 News:

 At the regular Council meeting held on May 13, 2025, Administration was directed to:

  • Send Agricultural Services Department Units #63057 – 2015 Jeep Cherokee, Unit #63058 – 2015 Jeep Cherokee and Unit #63044 – 2014 Ford F250 to an upcoming auction, as per Policy 1.2 Disposal of Surplus Items.
  • Send a letter of congratulations to Marie Lindsay, President, St. Isidore Museum on the completion of the cataloguing of artifacts and archives
  • Develop a policy for the purpose of standardizing signage along Highway 2 and Sunrise Gateway Business Park on Municipal Reserve Plan 8521671; Block 4; Lot 3MR

 

Council proclaimed May 11 -  17, 2025, as International Economic Development Week in Northern Sunrise County.

Council proclaimed June 2 - 8, 2025, as Seniors Week in Northern Sunrise County

Council approved the disposal of identified surplus equipment. Council provided County resident nominations for the 2025 Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards. 

Council approved the use of the County landfill account for the 2025 Alberta Forestry and Parks Lands Division Summer Garbage Cleanup Program.

 

Bylaws:

  • Council gave first and second reading to Bylaw 471/25 Procedural Bylaw as amended.  The Bylaw will be brought back to the May 27, 2025 regular Council meeting for consideration of third reading.

 

 Presentations:

  • Chris Johnson, Thirza Johnson, and Judy Harter with the Misery Mountain Ski Hill provided an update on their operations.
  • Jacqueline Bennis, Jessica Clarke, Kristina Spiller, Nicole Schuler with Friends of the Shepherds Society presented an update on their Inclusive Playground Project at Good Shepherd School in Peace River, AB.

 

Donations and Sponsorships:

  •  $14,000 to the Friends of the Shepherds Society for the Inclusive Playground project at Good Shepherd School in Peace River, AB.
  • $2,000 to Good Shepherd School for the purchase of a Tipi.
  • $466 for 100 “Pop It” Balls will be provided to the Peace River Porpoises Swim Club for their upcoming swim meet.

May 27, 2025, and June 10, 2025, regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
