January 28 Council Highlights
At the regular Council meeting held on January 28, 2025, Administration was directed to:
- Send a letter to the Peace Region MLA’s and MP, the Minister of Forestry and Parks, and the Premier of Alberta requesting them to advocate for the forestry industry in response to the U.S Government’s proposed 25% tariff on Canadian imports.
- Request a meeting with the Minister of Forestry and Parks at the Rural Municipalities of Alberta Convention on March 17-19, 2025 to discuss the Ministry’s advocacy efforts for the forestry industry in response to the U.S Government’s proposed 25% tariff on Canadian imports.
- Request a meeting with the Minister of Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors at the RMA Convention to discuss:
- Peace River School Division Class 1 Mandatory Entry Level Training Driver Test Requirements
- Highway 686 Update
- Highway 744 (Judah Hill) Paving and Bridge Rehabilitation Update
- Provincial Funding for Peace Regional Airport
A Public Land Auction will be held on April 9, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. for the following parcels:

- NW-18-82-18-W5M, 82241 Range Road 190, Tax Roll 45298
- SE-18-82-18-W5M, Tax Roll 158235
- SW-18-82-18-W5M, Tax Roll 158236
Beginning in October 2025, Council will extend the appointment for elected officials on the Heart River Housing Board to two years to provide members with more time to fully understand the housing portfolio.

- Liisa Jeffrey, Alaina Archibald, and Dr. Blasius Azuhnwi with the Peace Country Beef & Forage Association provided an annual update on their operations.
- Sherman Horseman with Tolko Industries Ltd. and Jason Boucher with Boucher Bros Lumber provided an update on their operations.
Donations and Sponsorships:
- $500 to the Smoky River Applied Research and Demonstration Association for their Annual Agricultural Trade Show on March 27-29, 2025 in Falher, AB.
- $750 to the Community Futures Peace Country Women in the North Conference on May 8, 2025.
- $13,250 to the Peace River Aboriginal Interagency Committee for their 2025 community events as follows:
o $1,000 for the Red Dress Day Event on May 5, 2025 and the Sisters in Spirit Walk on October 4, 2025
o $500 for the Opening Annual Indigenous Art Show on May 23, 2025
o $6,000 for the Peace River Pow Wow on June 7-8, 2025
o $1,000 for the Peace River Pow Wow Calendars Fundraiser
o $1,250 for the National Indigenous Peoples Day at Riverfront Park on June 21, 2025
o $500 for the National Overdose Awareness Day at Riverfront Park on August 31, 2025
o $2,500 for the 2025 National Truth & Reconciliation Day Event on September 30, 2025
o $500 for the 2025 National Aboriginal Veterans Day Event on November 8, 2025

February 11 & 25, 2025 regular Council Meetings at 9:30 a.m. in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
