September 23 Council Meeting Highlights

September 23, 2025, Council Meeting

News:

At the regular Council meeting held on September 23, 2025, Administration was directed to:

  • Request a meeting with the Commander Officer of the Alberta RCMP during the 2025 Rural Municipalities of Alberta Fall Convention to discuss the rising crime rate, policing costs, and the level of service provided.
  • Request a meeting with MP Arnold Viersen to discuss the rising crime rate and the level of policing services provided.
  • Request a meeting with the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services to discuss the rising crime rate and policing costs, and the level of service provided.
  • Provide a letter to the Premier of Alberta, copied to the Minister of Energy and affected Municipalities, regarding the financial distress of Municipalities due to unpaid Oil & Gas taxes, while the Alberta Government still receives royalties from the Oil & Gas industry.

 

Council accepted the 2024-2025 Northern Sunrise County Municipal Accountability Program report and Action Plan as presented.

Council appointed Christine Phimester as Agricultural Fieldman for Northern Sunrise County.

 

Bylaws:

Council gave first, second, and third readings, and passed Bylaw 472/25 to repeal Bylaw B169/10 Debenture Bylaw for Paved Roads as presented.

 

Donations and Sponsorships:

  • $500 to Mighty Peace Tourism for their 2025 Northern Alberta Tourism Summit Event.
  • $10,000 for the 2025 Christmas Gift Card Program.

October 14 regular Council Meeting at 9:30 a.m..

October 30, 2025, Organizational Meeting at 9:30 a.m. and the regular Council meeting to follow in the Northern Sunrise County Council Chamber.
